Please stop trying to sell these for any amount of money. Don’t tell me about your “campy bike”

Old beat up bike parts are, for the most part, not worth shit. Excepting ‘real cranks’, quality vintage bearing assemblies and saddles/bars that fit you.

Campy was great, then it was overpriced, then it was technologically inferior,then it sucked, then it was cute, then it was adequate, then it was pretty. It still kind of sucks.

This doesn’t count for track stuff

The Campagnolo brake quick release is a terrible design. If you break a spoke you have to further punish yourself by changing your ergonomics. This vs this.

Shimano should sell for half to two thirds of its previous price until broken or else demoted to beater duty. 7700 should be a deal

Shimano makes the best road hubs

Period correctness includes a lot of ugly things

A half-worn Deore mech with a bad lower pulley and some rust on the cage is worth  $2.50

Bent aluminum bars should be turned into coke cans

Axles and spindles are to be saved from all bikes.

Never try to sell reflectors, steel seat posts, their accompanying saddles or dept store mtb tires on Craigslist.

If you have a set of wheels built, take the extra time to figure out who the best in your area is. If it goes out of true in a week, you could have done it yourself for free.

This is just a collection of thoughts I’ve had lately about bikes and bike stuff. I’m not trying to be a pedant or tell people what to do, atmo most of this is true or at least arguable. Of course we should all “shut up/just ride/blah”. They didn’t need me at work today so I stayed home and blogged.
